This vintage Beni Mguild rug with a blue and red checker pattern is a striking piece of Moroccan craftsmanship, originating from the Beni M'Guild tribe in the Middle Atlas Mountains. This rugs is handwoven by Berber artisans from the Ait Aarfa tribe using traditional techniques passed down through generations, typically crafted from high-quality, hand-spun wool. The blue and red checker design features a bold, geometric pattern, alternating squares of rich, deep blues and vibrant reds, often softened by natural fading due to age and use. This creates a timeless, slightly weathered look that enhances its vintage appeal.

Measuring 210 x 125 cm, this rug has a plush pile, originally designed to provide warmth against the cold mountain winters. The wool is dyed with natural or vegetable dyes, lending the colors a subtle, organic depth that may vary slightly across the rug due to its handmade nature, Indigo blue and carminic acid for this case. The checker pattern might be accented with tribal motifs or abstract shapes, reflecting the weaver’s personal expression and cultural heritage.

As a vintage item, between 50 to 70 years old or more, it carries unique imperfections —slight color variations—that add character. Durable yet soft underfoot, this rug blends bohemian charm with mid-century modern vibes, making it a versatile addition to eclectic or minimalist interiors. This rug is one-of-a-kind, a functional work of art that tells a story of Moroccan tradition and artisanal skill.
